Email Spam Filter FAQ's


SUMMARY: How to configure Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 to prevent SPAM.


Open Outlook Express, if not already.
Select The Tools menu, and select Message Rules, and select Mail...
In the new Message Rules window, click on New...
In the first box(Conditions) Check the condition named Where the Subject contains specific words
In the second box(Actions) Check Move it to the specified folder
Below in the Third box (Description) click on contains specific words.
In the Type Specific Words window click in the first box and type****SPAM*****(5 asterisks)
Click Add, then click on OK.
In the same window click on specified folder.
Click the New Folder button, in the name field type SPAM or whatever you want your folder to be called
Click OK, now make sure your new folder is selected, then click OK
In the last box(Name) type a name for the rule like SPAM filter or something else descriptive, then click OK
Click OK to close the Message Rules window.
Your all done, check in your SPAM folder occasionally to make sure its working and also check for any email that you might have wanted.
  Note: Occassionally you may also want to empty this folder.
 
SUMMARY: How to configure Microsoft Outlook 2000 to prevent SPAM.


Open Outlook, if not already.
Select the Tools menu, and select Rules Wizard...
In the new Rules Wizard screen, click on New...
Make sure Check messages when they arrive is selected, then click>Next >
Check the condition named with specific words in the subject.
In the new Search Text window click in the Add new: box and type*****SPAM*****
Click Add, then click on OK .
Click Next > in the Rules wizard window.
Check the action called move it to the specified folder.
Below in the Rule Discription window click on specified.
Click the New... button, in the name field type SPAM or whatever you want your folder to be called

Click OK, now make sure your new folder is selected, then click OK

Click Next >, and click Next > again, as we have no exceptions
Now it should be asking for a name for our filter, type spam filter or something desciptive, then click Finish.

Click OK to close the Rules Wizard window.

Your all done, check in your SPAM folder occasionally to make sure its working and also check for any email that you might have wanted.
Note: Occassionally you may also want to empty this folder.
It might also be better to check for the X-Spam-Flag in the header instead of the Subject: *****SPAM... To do this use the condition called with specific words in the message header and use X-Spam-Flag: YES as the search text.
